This would depend upon your diesel heater application. If installed into a regular road-going vehicle, with regular replenishing and turnover of diesel purchased from a fuel station forecourt, then there is likely little need to fit an additional larger filter between the vehicle fuel tank and the heater fuel pump.
An extra larger capacity fuel filter is more often required when you cannot guarantee the quality of the diesel eg Narroboats, or perhaps infrequently used Camper RVs that can hold diesel in their tanks over many months. There are other examples of course.
