Thanks for the great question - this is exactly where the Eberspacher Airtronic S3 D2L 12V diesel heater shines. It’s designed for off-grid, low-power environments like campervans, boats, and shepherd’s huts.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the electrical current draw:

  • Startup (glow pin ignition): ~7.5 amps at 12V for 60–90 seconds
  • Normal operation: ~0.5 to 2.25 amps, depending on heat output
  • Standby mode: Just 0.0001 amps (100 microamps), virtually nothing
  • Incidentally, please be aware that this Eberspacher  S3 D2L 12v heater will auto-shutdown on undervoltage battery protection circuit if system voltage drops below approx. 10.5 volt for longer than 20 seconds ±1

Your solar battery system should easily support it, as long as it can handle the brief startup surge. Once running, the power draw is extremely low - perfect for energy-conscious off-grid setups.

If you need help choosing the right fuse, wiring, or battery capacity to pair with this 12V diesel heater, our team at Butler Technik is always happy to help.
