About 3 years ago I had a 'professional' marine engineer fit an Eberspacher Airtronic D4 to my sailing boat. I have had issues with the installation and now realise this 'professional' was a bit of a fraud. Recently the heater failed. They had fitted a 10l slim fuel tank with the 3 mounting holes in a triangular pattern - that you advertise. However on looking into the reasons for the failure I now see you sate the fuel tank is not suitable for marine applications. Can you advise me why that is the case. I'm guessing it maybe a fire risk and maybe I should change it. However it is an old boat and fitted with a plastic main fuel tank (not fire proof) and would not pass current regulations anyway. Looking forward to your response.

These diesel heater fuel tanks are non-compliant for marine boat use because they are not certificated for such, as you correctly supposed this is related to certificate for fire retardation. In all situations tanks of black/blue colour should be chosen rather than clear or opaque colour to minimise ultra-violet light degradation of the diesel fuel. Hope the above helps.
