Diesel Particulate Filters or Soot Filters are a highly efficient solution for controlling soot particle emissions to allow compliance with the London Low Emission Zone.

Diesel Particulate Filters typically reduce the number of ultrafine soot particles emitted from the tailpipe by between 99.0% and 99.9% - bringing exhaust gases up to very high air quality levels, allowing penalty/tariff free entry into the London Low Emission Zone.

However, these filters will only remain efficient if the trapped soot can be disposed of during normal engine operation. If this does not occur regularly the filter will clog. This increases the backpressure from the exhaust and will ultimately prevent the engine running.

Although there are a number of methods for regenerating a particulate filter, one of the most widely utilised and most cost-effective is to use a fuel borne catalyst. A fuel borne catalyst works by reducing the ignition temperature of the trapped soot, typically by more than 200°C. Typical vehicle temperature profiles can thus have comparatively short intervals circa 400°C for successful operation.

Satacen® 3 Fuel Borne Catalyst ensures complete and rapid filter regeneration by pre-catalysing the soot formed during combustion, with tiny particles of iron oxide. This ensures that any soot trapped in the filter will burn off at the lower temperatures typically encountered during normal engine operation. The filter is therefore regenerated during everyday driving without having to worry about filter clogging or damage. The cost and inconvenience associated with frequent filter removal and specialist cleaning can therefore be kept to a minimum.

• Only Satacen® and no other additive should be used in the FBC system.
• The vehicle should not be driven if the Satacen® tank is allowed to run dry.
• The FBC system will require priming if the Satacen® storage tank is allowed to run dry or the injector system is repaired or replaced.’

‘If a vehicle equipped with the system Pirelli Feelpure or Pirelli Feelpure AR and has to function for a long time in an environment with temperature below -15°C, Pirelli Eco Technology recommends the use of Satacen® 3 additive, instead of CAM FBC. Satacen®3 ...... can be employed up to -39°C.

Optimum dosing ratio for Satacen® 3 is 0,5 liter to 1000 liters of fuel: it is different from the one of Pirelli CAM FBC (1,5 liters to 1000 liters of diesel)’

Pirelli DPF systems are installed to consume Pirelli CAM FBC additive from new (please see other items). However Satacen® 3 has been formally approved by the manufacturer, Pirelli Eco Technology, for demanding applications. Prior to using SATACEN 3 to replace Pirelli CAM FBC however it is IMPORTANT to call us. Dosing ratios of the 2 products are very different. Satacen® 3 can SAVE you money. Use 1 Litre of SATACEN 3, equivalent to 3 litres Pirelli CAM FBC. Product dilution or Pirelli ECU parameter change MUST be performed prior to use in Pirelli Feelpure systems.
